Advance >> Bible Study - Day 5

The 10 / 10 / 10 Method:

Today our Bible study method will be the 10/10/10 method. It is very simple, yet effective, method of studying God's Word. It has three steps:

  1. Read for 10 minutes: during this part, read with your pen in your hand. As you read, underline, highlight, put a star next to, and mark any word or phrase that sticks out to you. Don't be afraid to write in your Bible.
  2. Meditate for 10 minutes: during this next part, go back and re-read all of the words and phrases that you underlined or highlighted. Take some time to meditate on them and what they mean to your life. Ask yourself: "What about my life needs to change based on what I just read?" "What did I learn about God?" Take some time to just BE STILL and MEDITATE on the Word of God.
  3. Write for 10 minutes: during this final part, put your thoughts down on paper. Based on your thoughts from meditation, take some time and write them down in a journal. Write down how your life will change based on what you just learned.
What if you don't have 30 minutes to do this? That's OKAY! If you want to do this in the 5/5/5 format, do it that way. There is no wrong or right way to study the Bible... just make the effort to do SOMETHING!

Today's text for you to read will be Matthew 5 - Matthew 7: This section of Scripture is known at the Beatitudes. It is some of Jesus' greatest teaching. Grab your Bible, and get started! Enjoy!

Were we not supposed to comment on this one...oh well...

-If we have the Holy Spirit in us we should HATE our sin. Mathew 5:29-30 talks about how if your right hand causes you to sin, we should cut it off. I should try to eliminate any kind of sin in my life

- Although culture today says we shouldnt like our enemies and we should get revenge on them, Mathew 5:43-48 talks about how we should love our enemies and pray for our enemies. That is something i struggle with, when someone is mean to me or one of my friends, its hard for me to forgive and pray for them

- If we give to the needy only because we want people to see us, it isnt good. When we give in secret God sees us and will reward us.

- Everything we have on earth isnt going to matter when we die. We shouldnt live our lives collecting up as much stuff as possible, but we should be trying to grow in our faith.

-We should not worry. We should put all of our trust in God.

- We shouldnt judge people because we arent any better. Mathew 7:3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawduust in your brothers eye, and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"

-Only people who live their lives for Jesus will go to heaven. Mathew 7:21

Reading through the Beatitudes is such a great reminder for me... Jesus didn't see the world the way most people saw it. Jesus understood that the heart was the most important thing.

When I read this passage of Scripture, it makes me realize that my priorities in life can sometimes be really messed up. Do I see things that way Jesus saw them? Do I understand and apply Jesus' teachings to my life? Do I worry about too much?

I feel like I should read these 3 chapters at least once a week...

There is something about journaling that really helps solidify what a read and helps me express better what I need to hear from God and how He has answered me. There is nothing like looking back through my journal and seeing how God is teaching me new things!
