Advance >> Bible Study - Day 6

Today's Method is the Inductive Method. It is a simple way of looking at the Bible and asking three questions:
  1. What does it say? (Observation)
  2. What does it mean? (Interpretation)
  3. What does it mean to me? (Application)
The main point of studying the Bible is to find out what it says and what it means so that you can apply it to your life. Remember, you could memorize the entire Bible and if you don't apply it to your life, it will mean NOTHING!!! We MUST apply the Bible to our lives in order for us to be changed.

The passage of Scripture that we will read today is found in Matthew 18:21-35. It is a parable (story of Jesus) that talks about forgiveness. Click HERE to listen to the parable and then go through the three questions.

In order to do step #3, you will have to DO SOMETHING about what you read in the text... The Christian faith is PRO-ACTIVE (that means we have to do something with the information we have). Have fun!

Forgiveness is offered to all of us in Christ Jesus. Those of us who have received that forgiveness should ALWAYS offer it to other people.

This parable really makes me think about how I treat others who offend me in small ways... I have been forgiven by God through Jesus for my sin which is a BIG DEAL to God... all the other stuff is kinda petty... will I offer forgiveness for small things when I have been forgiven of a BIG thing? I should...

We are so cruel to each other. We love mercy when it's for us but only want justice when someone does something to us. This is a constant reminder in the car... I know that might not seem really spiritual but often thats where I'm real. I want someone to let me into traffic but I don't want someone to pull in front of me. I am angry when someone cuts me off but when I need to pull out into traffic, I shrug it off when it affects those behind me. It's shameful.
Can I really work to love others and give mercy to others when I know how much mercy God has given me?
